Back to Real Life

I'm back to my regular life in Baku again. Budapest is a lot like Prague -- almost magical in its beauty. I love when a country works to preserve its heritage, and I especially enjoy the Gothic (among others) touches of these Eastern European countries.
I am trying hard to land Budapest as my next assignment. It will be hard to get, but my family would really enjoy living there for three years.

If one is interested in such things, I always have all of my photos at the Flickr link on the right side of the page.

  2. How cool. I've got to get out more. If I can;t be there, at least I can visit blogs and look at the pictures. Hey, its better than nothing.

  4. Where will you go when you retire? You've visited so many exotic places, where do you consider home?

  5. Vicki, I have no idea right now. I am from Arizona, but my wife can't handle the heat there. So, we intent to keep looking around the U.S. to see where we might both like to live. The next area we intend to look at is the Portland, Seattle, Vancouver stretch.

  6. You are so lucky. I'm from Seattle and you would love it there.

There is not so much wonderful old culture as in Eastern Europe, of course, but it is one of the most beautiful natural landscapes I've ever seen. Snow capped peaks, white-caps on the sound, and everything from pine forests to the only rain forest in North America. It is a wonderful place. Vancouver is also great.

  7. I have family there but have never been able to go visit. Hello... no, I cannot take a small child to a country with no chicken nuggets. No, he will not eat sausage and cheese for three meals a day. Really. I'm sorry, but he won't.
    LOL!
Continental living is.... different. They don't have a proper kitchen, only a mini-fridge and a hot plate, and only have one bedroom. The living room sofa is converted into a bed every night. And there is only one bathroom as well. Even if I could afford a ticket, it would not be a vacation for me.

But, I'll definitely check out your photos. I have heard many times that it is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Perhaps one day I'll be able to go by myself and truly enjoy it.

  9. Budapest is very beautiful. Unfortunately, I've only seen it in pictures, but it's a place I'd like to visit one day.

  10. Christine, how times change! They have lots of chicken nuggets now. McDonalds and TGI Fridays all over the place.

  11. I only looked at a couple, as I am time deficient, but Budapest looks AMAZING! I can definitely see why you want to head there if possible!

If you have questions about the Pacific Northwest, just shout--I lived in Oregon for 16 years and love Portland (miss it badly) but have friends and family all over Washington and Oregon.
